In a thrilling display, Sanju Samson scored 37 runs off just 22 balls against South Africa in Ahmedabad, compelling the selectors to rethink Shubman Gill's vice-captaincy. With Gill sidelined due to an injury, Samson’s impactful performance could solidify his position as an opener for the upcoming New Zealand series and the T20 World Cup.

At 26, Gill was positioned as T20 vice-captain to prepare him for future leadership, taking over from Suryakumar Yadav. However, his current form doesn't align with Team India's aggressive ethos, having not registered a fifty since rejoining the T20 squad, with a concerning drop in strike rate.
