Saali Mohabbat marks the directorial debut of acclaimed actor Tisca Chopra and is set to premiere in Hindi on Zee5 on December 12. The film features Radhika Apte, Divyendu Sharma, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Sauraseni Maitra, blending psychological suspense with layered human emotions.
Sauraseni Maitra plays Shalini, a young woman who arrives in the city with aspirations of independence, but quickly becomes entangled in complex family dynamics. Her character is central to the plot, as her presence creates tension between Ratan Pandit (Divyendu Sharma) and Pankaj (Anshumaan Pushkar), both of whom develop feelings for her. These shifting relationships trigger conflicts that impact every character in the story.
Discussing why she joined the project, Sauraseni said she was immediately drawn to the opportunity. “When Manish Malhotra approached me about his new production house and mentioned Tisca Chopra was directing, I was thrilled. Learning about the rest of the cast made saying yes even easier,” she shared. She describes Saali Mohabbat as a thriller that balances suspense with emotional depth, focusing on character motivations rather than just crime.
The film explores the hidden sides of human relationships and the secrets we often overlook. “We think we know our families, our siblings, our children. But do we really? My character’s arrival shifts the story in unexpected ways, turning it into a thriller that is more about ‘how’ things happen rather than ‘who’ did it,” Sauraseni explained.
On working with Tisca Chopra, Sauraseni praised the actor-turned-director’s dedication and vision. “Tisca was hands-on throughout the process. From workshops to rehearsals, she ensured every actor could explore their character fully. Her approach added depth and nuance to the film.”
Sauraseni also highlighted the support from producer Manish Malhotra, who discovered her work in Taj: Reign of Revenge and personally brought her on board. “Manish is humble, focused, and incredibly supportive. He and his brother Devesh were present throughout the shoot, ensuring actors were comfortable and motivated. His understanding of cinema and attention to detail made the experience special,” she said.
With its intricate narrative, emotional tension, and strong performances, Saali Mohabbat promises to be a gripping watch. The film is not only a significant debut for Tisca Chopra as a director but also a standout project for Sauraseni Maitra, showcasing her versatility and depth as an actor.
