Sergio Gor Confirmed as US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Sergio Gor has been confirmed by the US Senate as the next Ambassador of the United States to India. The 38-year-old diplomat was approved on Tuesday in a single en bloc vote, with 51 senators supporting his nomination and 47 opposing, despite the ongoing US government shutdown.

In addition to his ambassadorial role, Gor will serve as the Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs, strengthening US engagement in the region.

Gor, who currently serves as Director of Presidential Personnel, was nominated in August by President Donald Trump. Alongside him, Paul Kapur was confirmed as Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs, and Dr. Anjani Sinha was confirmed as US Ambassador to Singapore.

Background of Sergio Gor

Born Sergey Gorokhovsky on November 30, 1986, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan (then part of the Soviet Union), Gor moved to Malta as a child. His family later migrated to the United States in 1999, where he completed high school in Los Angeles. He is a graduate of George Washington University.

Gor has been active in politics from a young age. He participated in College Republicans and founded the campus chapter of the Young America’s Foundation. He supported John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign and later worked with the Republican National Committee.

He served as communications director and spokesman for Representatives Steve King, Michele Bachmann, and Randy Forbes. In 2013, he joined Senator Rand Paul’s PAC, RANDPAC, as spokesman, communications director, and deputy chief of staff.

In 2020, Gor became chief of staff for the Trump Victory Finance Committee and collaborated with Donald Trump Jr. as a consultant and book publisher. Together, they founded Winning Team Publishing and released several books about Donald Trump. Gor also has experience as an amateur DJ, including performing at events at Mar-a-Lago.

In 2022, he became a senior advisor to MAGA Inc. and led the PAC Right for America. In November 2024, Trump appointed him Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office. His recent nomination as US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs was confirmed by the Senate in October 2025.

This appointment marks a key step in strengthening US-India relations, focusing on trade, diplomacy, and regional security cooperation.
