A tragic road accident in Serian, Sarawak, claimed the lives of five members of the same family, including a two-year-old girl, on the morning of June 3. The fatal crash occurred along Jalan Baki Lama Ensengei when the family's vehicle reportedly lost control and collided with a water pipe, resulting in devastating consequences.
Emergency responders from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to the scene shortly after receiving a distress call at approximately 8:41 a.m. Firefighters from the Serian station arrived quickly and discovered a severely damaged vehicle at the crash site. Rescue teams immediately began efforts to access the victims trapped inside the wreckage.
According to officials, the victims included a man, three women aged between 16 and 47, and a two-year-old girl. Firefighters worked to extricate the four adult occupants from the vehicle. During the rescue operation, members of the public discovered the young child near the crash scene. Authorities believe the girl was thrown from the vehicle during the impact due to the force of the collision.
Medical personnel from the Ministry of Health examined all victims at the scene. Sadly, all five family members were pronounced dead before they could be transported for treatment. The accident has shocked the local community and highlighted the severe dangers associated with high-impact road collisions.
Following the recovery operation, the bodies of the victims were handed over to police authorities for further procedures and investigation. The rescue mission was successfully brought under control by 9:20 a.m. and officially concluded at 9:51 a.m. after emergency teams completed all necessary operations at the site.
Investigators are now working to determine the exact cause of the crash. Police have not yet released details regarding factors that may have contributed to the accident, including road conditions, vehicle condition, or driver-related circumstances. Authorities are expected to conduct a comprehensive investigation before releasing their final findings.
The incident serves as another reminder of the importance of road safety and vehicle maintenance. Local authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during long-distance travel and on roads where unexpected hazards may arise. The loss of an entire family, including a young child, has left the community mourning a heartbreaking tragedy
