Tax Authorities Tighten Action on Double Accounting

Tax Authorities Tighten Action on Double Accounting

Post by : Shakul

Tax authorities have raised serious concerns over the increasing issue of “double accounting,” identifying it as a major cause of revenue loss and economic imbalance. Officials emphasized that this practice not only harms the State budget but also negatively impacts the long-term business environment.

According to senior tax officials, one of the primary reasons behind this issue is the limited awareness of legal compliance and business ethics among a section of businesses. Many companies continue to prioritize profit maximization while ignoring their obligations toward tax regulations.

Another key concern highlighted is that businesses often underestimate the legal and criminal risks associated with tax fraud. Some firms knowingly take risks, believing that the benefits of evasion outweigh potential penalties, while others assume that such violations are difficult to detect.

Authorities also pointed out that certain businesses rely on concealment strategies, believing that maintaining two sets of accounting records can easily bypass regulatory scrutiny. This mindset has contributed significantly to the persistence of tax evasion practices.

To address these challenges, the tax department has announced a series of strong and systematic measures. A major focus will be on controlling cash flow, reducing cash transactions, and improving data connectivity between tax authorities and the banking system to monitor high-value transactions effectively.

Additionally, advanced technologies such as Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be used to analyze financial patterns. These tools will help identify unusual revenue fluctuations, suspiciously low profit margins, and other warning signs of double accounting, shifting the system from manual checks to data-driven monitoring.

The authorities also plan to strengthen the management of electronic invoices and accounting software, while improving coordination with law enforcement agencies. Cases showing signs of tax fraud will be quickly investigated and transferred for legal action. At the same time, public awareness campaigns will be promoted to warn businesses about the legal risks of tax violations.
