Sony Pictures to Adapt Iconic Labubus Toys for Film

Sony Pictures to Adapt Iconic Labubus Toys for Film

Post by : Meena Ariff

Sony Pictures has entered into an agreement to produce a movie centered on the wildly popular Labubus toys, according to reports this week. Currently in the early phases, it's unclear whether the film will take a live-action or animated format. Sony has refrained from commenting on this new project.

The Labubus dolls, launched by China's Pop Mart, exploded in popularity in 2025, captivating a global audience. Sold in "blind boxes"—keeping the particular model under wraps until purchase—these collectible figures quickly became a sensation. High-profile personalities like Rihanna and Lisa from the renowned K-pop group Blackpink have been spotted with them, enhancing their widespread appeal.

The toy line's success has turned Labubus into a cultural icon, leading to bustling queues in stores and immense demand among collectors. Their quirky monster designs and the excitement of finding rare figures have propelled their remarkable rise.

With a track record of hits like the Jumanji films and the Netflix animated success KPop Demon Hunters, Sony Pictures is eager to transform this toy phenomenon into a cinematic adventure. Industry experts predict that the film could combine elements of adventure, humor, and fantasy, mirroring the engaging and collectible spirit of Labubus.

Though still in its initial development phase, fans are already buzzing about possible plotlines, character interpretations, and the potential for a broader franchise. With a global following and notable endorsements, Sony is set to move Labubus from toy shelves to theaters.
