Controversial figure Andrew Tate has made headlines after Romanian officials handed down a nine-month prison sentence to rapper Wiz Khalifa for drug possession. In a post on X, Tate quipped, "Romanians are now trying to throw Wiz Khalifa in jail. Come see me @wizkhalifa, I know the best way to get comfortable blankets and pillows."
Wiz Khalifa, whose full name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, found himself in legal trouble last July when he was caught smoking a joint during his performance at the Beach Please! Festival in Costinești, Romania. At that time, he was entertaining the crowd with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's classic hit, 'The Next Episode.' Romanian regulations are stringent regarding illegal substances, and Khalifa was convicted for "unlawful possession of dangerous drugs for personal use." He later expressed remorse on social media, assuring fans that he did not mean to offend Romania and promised to refrain from smoking while on stage in the future.
Previously, Khalifa received an $830 fine for the incident in April 2025, but prosecutors pushed back against the verdict. Consequently, the Constanța Court of Appeal replaced the fine with a nine-month jail term, stating that his behavior could potentially promote drug usage among impressionable young fans. His legal team has lodged an appeal, leaving uncertainty about whether Khalifa will serve jail time, as he is currently residing outside Romania as a US citizen.
Andrew Tate, known for his past as a kickboxer and a contentious online persona, is under investigation for serious allegations, including rape and human trafficking, among others. Together with his brother Tristan Tate and two women from Romania, he faces claims of luring women under false pretenses and compelling them to produce explicit content. Both brothers adamantly deny the allegations, positing that the legal action is an attempt to confiscate their assets.
In addition to these charges overseas, Tate has 21 criminal counts pending against him in the UK, encompassing serious offenses like rape and assault. A figure known for his divisive perspectives and advocacy of hyper-masculinity, Tate has been banned from numerous social media channels due to concerns about toxic masculinity influencing young audiences.
