Telangana Student Dies in Germany Fire Days Before Sankranti Visit

Telangana Student Dies in Germany Fire Days Before Sankranti Visit

Post by : Meena Ariff

What was expected to be a happy return home for the Sankranti festival has ended in deep sorrow for a family in Telangana. Hruthik Reddy, a 25-year-old student from Malkapur village in Jangaon district, died in a tragic fire accident in Germany on New Year’s Day.

Reports indicate that a major fire broke out late Wednesday night at the apartment where Hruthik was staying in Berlin. As the fire spread quickly and thick smoke filled the building, Hruthik tried to escape from the upper floor. In the process, he jumped down and suffered severe head injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save him, and he passed away during treatment.

Hruthik had travelled to Germany in June 2023 to pursue a Master’s degree in Magdeburg after completing his engineering studies from Vaagdevi College of Engineering in 2022. He had decided not to return home during the Dasara festival and instead planned to visit Telangana in the second week of January to celebrate Sankranti with his family.

His sudden death has left his village in mourning, with family members, friends, and locals struggling to cope with the shocking loss. The family has contacted the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Germany to speed up the process of bringing his mortal remains back to India for the last rites.

Authorities in Germany have started an investigation to find out the exact cause of the fire.

This tragic incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of Indian students living abroad. It comes close on the heels of another heartbreaking case involving a 24-year-old woman from the same district who lost her life in a house fire in the United States while pursuing higher education.
