Thailand Prepares For Royal Ploughing Ceremony

Thailand Prepares For Royal Ploughing Ceremony

Post by : Shakul

A key rehearsal for the Royal Ploughing Ceremony 2026 was held at Sanam Luang as Thailand prepares for one of its most important traditional events. The ceremony is deeply connected to agriculture and is seen as a symbol of prosperity and seasonal predictions for farmers.

The rehearsal was led by Winairoj Sapsongsook, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, who performed the role of Phraya Raek Na, or the Chief Ploughman. His role is central to the ceremony, as he symbolically ploughs the field to mark the beginning of the farming season.

Alongside him were participants dressed in traditional attire, including the Thepi Khu Haab Thong, who carry golden and silver baskets. These elements are important parts of the ceremony, representing abundance and prosperity for the country’s agricultural sector.

The rehearsal also included royal oxen, which play a significant role in the ritual. The behaviour of these oxen during the ceremony is traditionally used to predict the upcoming agricultural season, including rainfall patterns and crop success.

Government officials and personnel participated in the rehearsal to ensure that all aspects of the ceremony are conducted smoothly. The event requires careful planning and coordination, as it holds both cultural and symbolic importance.

The Royal Ploughing Ceremony is an annual tradition in Thailand that reflects the country’s deep connection to agriculture. It is closely followed by farmers and the public, as it provides symbolic guidance for the year ahead.

As preparations continue, authorities are focused on preserving the authenticity of the ceremony while ensuring it is conducted with precision and respect for tradition. The upcoming event is expected to draw attention from across the nation.
