RM1.74m Jewellery Stolen in Genting Highlands Heist

RM1.74m Jewellery Stolen in Genting Highlands Heist

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Three men armed with axes and crowbars allegedly robbed a goldsmith at SkyAvenue mall in Genting Highlands, escaping with 81 pieces of jewellery worth approximately RM1.74 million.

The jewellery, weighing around 2.5 kilogrammes, was taken during a robbery that lasted only about two minutes, according to Pahang police.

Acting Pahang police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said police received information about the incident at 11.39am from a private security guard.

Suspects Took Five Trays of Jewellery

Preliminary investigations found that three male suspects entered the goldsmith's premises wearing face masks, caps and jackets. They were reportedly armed with axes and crowbars.

The suspects allegedly took five trays of jewellery before leaving the shop at around 11.41am.

At the time of the robbery, two employees, one man and one woman, were inside the shop. Another female employee was reportedly outside on a break.

Police said there were no customers inside the shop when the robbery happened. No security guard had been assigned specifically to the premises, and no injuries were reported.

CCTV Footage Shows Suspects Using BMW

Police examined CCTV footage from the mall and found that the suspects were believed to have arrived in a luxury BMW.

According to police, the vehicle was registered in the name of a man who lives in Ampang, Selangor. Investigators are now working to identify and locate the three suspects.

Police Launch Op Tutup After Robbery

Following the robbery, police immediately launched Op Tutup from noon.

Roadblocks and checks were carried out at Check Point 2 in Genting Highlands and along routes leading towards Batang Kali.

The operation continued until approximately 4.15pm as police attempted to track the suspects and their escape route.

The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Forensics Division and the Pahang Contingent CID were also sent to the crime scene to collect evidence and examine the premises.

Police Appeal for Public Information

Police are continuing their investigation to identify and arrest all three suspects involved in the Genting Highlands jewellery robbery.

Members of the public who have information about the incident are urged to contact Investigating Officer Inspector Nurul Aqilah Azmi at 011-3175 9522 or report the information to the nearest police station.

The case remains under investigation.
