Tiger Woods, renowned for his 15 major wins, disclosed that his recovery from a recent back procedure isn't progressing as quickly as he had hoped, raising questions in the golf community about his next steps. Approaching 50, the golfer underwent a disc replacement in October, marking his seventh significant back operation in a series of challenges.
During the Hero World Challenge held in the Bahamas, Woods mentioned that although he has been given the go-ahead to start practicing chipping and putting, he is still uncertain about when he will resume competitive golf. “It’s not as quick as I would like it to be,” he reflected, stressing the need for patience and commitment in the recovery journey.
Woods’ recent experiences have been filled with obstacles. After undergoing severe leg injuries from a car accident in 2021, he made a comeback in the 2022 Masters tournament but finished in 47th place. Following another back surgery in September 2024, he faced further challenges, including a ruptured Achilles tendon during his recovery.
Currently, Woods is gradually regaining mobility and has resumed limited gym activities focused on rotational exercises to enhance his physical condition while ensuring the healing of his disc. “I’m just allowing the disc to settle,” he noted, reaffirming his cautious recovery approach.
While there has been speculation regarding his potential return at the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles next February, Woods maintained a noncommittal stance, stating, “I’m not sure… a disc replacement takes its time. Thankfully it's not as lengthy as a fusion, but I must remain patient.”
Despite facing numerous hurdles, Woods' enthusiasm for golf has not waned. He conveyed his eagerness to return to playing the sport he loves, expressing, “I haven’t picked up a club in ages. This past year has been challenging… my desire to play again is immense; I haven’t had that in a long time,” emphasizing his resolve to overcome setbacks and hit the course once more.
