Tom Cruise Receives Honorary Oscar for His Legendary Film Contributions

Tom Cruise Receives Honorary Oscar for His Legendary Film Contributions

Post by : Meena Ariff

At a recent Academy gala, director Alejandro González Iñárritu introduced Tom Cruise, praising the actor's artistry. Íñárritu emphasized, "It is not how far he runs or how high he jumps. It's how precisely he decides to move, those tiny calibrations."

Cruise, 63, who has been nominated for an Oscar four times but has never won, was awarded an Honorary Oscar recognizing his impactful work in movies from Risky Business to the Mission: Impossible series. This accolade also highlighted his efforts in advocating for the film industry amid the rise of streaming and social platforms.

During his acceptance speech, Cruise shared how cinema influenced his early years. "Suddenly the world was so much larger than the one that I knew," he remarked. He spoke of his determination to work various jobs to fund his movie tickets and reiterated his passion for film: "I will always do everything I can to support this art form and to champion new voices, to protect what makes cinema powerful, hopefully without too many more broken bones." He humorously recalled a stunt-related ankle injury from 2017.

"Making films is not what I do. It's who I am," Cruise stated.

The gala also recognized Dolly Parton with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her extensive charitable initiatives, particularly her library that has dispensed over 300 million books to children. Parton accepted her accolade via video message.

Additional honorees included actor and choreographer Debbie Allen alongside production designer Wynn Thomas.
