In a sudden turn, former President Donald Trump has urged House Republicans to vote for the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein, following the recent release of emails by House Democrats. The emails, which surfaced last week, highlight past interactions between Trump and the late financier, accused of multiple sexual offenses.
Posting on his platform Truth Social, Trump framed the move as a step to “move on from this Democrat Hoax,” insisting the Republican Party should focus on its policy achievements, including economic gains, tax cuts, inflation reduction, and border security. He emphasized that the Department of Justice has already shared tens of thousands of pages related to Epstein and that any House Oversight Committee review should proceed “legally entitled” and without obstruction.
Trump dismissed the Democrats’ timing of the email release, noting that the issue received little attention while Epstein was alive and suggesting the disclosures were politically motivated, aimed at diverting focus from Republican successes in recent elections.
The emails reportedly track 15 years of correspondence involving Epstein, his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, and writer Michael Wolff. Several messages allegedly reference Trump and his interactions with a woman identified by Democrats as one of Epstein’s victims.
The case of Jeffrey Epstein dates back to 2006, when he faced allegations of sexual abuse of a minor in Florida. Epstein pleaded guilty to two felony charges in 2008 and remained a controversial figure until his death in 2019 while awaiting trial. Trump has repeatedly denied any improper association with Epstein, though the two were known to have socialized in elite circles in Florida and New York.
Trump’s comments come amid ongoing political debates over party priorities, with the former president urging Republicans to highlight policy achievements rather than engage in disputes over the Epstein emails.
