During the meeting, Ambassador Martin Brugy presented his credentials to the President and expressed his sincere gratitude for the opportunity to serve in Turkmenistan. He also conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from Italian President Sergio Mattarella to the Turkmen leadership.
President Berdimuhamedov congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and wished him success in strengthening bilateral relations. He also extended his greetings to the Italian President, reaffirming Turkmenistan’s commitment to friendly diplomatic ties.
The discussions highlighted the importance of cooperation between Turkmenistan and European Union member states, with Italy being a key partner. Both sides acknowledged their productive collaboration within international organizations such as the United Nations, the European Union, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
The two sides also discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including trade, economy, energy, transport, logistics, and agriculture. Special emphasis was placed on energy cooperation, where leading Italian companies have been actively involved in major projects.
Particular attention was given to the role of Eni, which continues to play a significant role in Turkmenistan’s fuel and energy sector through successful implementation of large-scale projects.
Transport and logistics were identified as another important area of partnership, with Turkmenistan actively developing international transport corridors such as North-South and East-West routes, enhancing regional and global connectivity.
The meeting also underlined the importance of cultural, educational, and scientific cooperation. Growing interest in the Italian language and academic exchanges reflects the strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.
