Turkmenistan Eyes Global Tourism Growth Boost

Turkmenistan Eyes Global Tourism Growth Boost

Post by : Shakul

The international exhibition and conference “Turkmentravel – 2026” officially commenced in Ashgabat on April 15, 2026, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, private entrepreneurs, and global experts to discuss the future of tourism in the region.

One of the key highlights of the event was the address by Cordula Wollmut, Regional Director for Europe at the United Nations World Tourism Organization. She emphasized that Central Asia is rapidly emerging as one of the most promising tourism regions in the world.

According to Wollmut, the region’s stability, safety, and rich cultural heritage are key factors driving its growing attractiveness among international travelers and investors.

She highlighted that Turkmenistan plays a strategically important role in building a strong and recognizable tourism brand for Central Asia, which could significantly enhance the region’s global positioning.

The UN tourism body also expressed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with Turkmenistan by supporting the integration of modern technologies into tourism services, encouraging sustainable infrastructure development, and attracting foreign investment.

Wollmut noted that all the necessary conditions are in place for Turkmenistan to become a competitive player in the global tourism market, provided that development continues in a structured and innovative manner.

She further added that unlocking the country’s tourism potential could create new economic opportunities, boost employment, and contribute to building a more sustainable and inclusive global tourism ecosystem.

The conference is expected to pave the way for future collaborations, partnerships, and strategic initiatives aimed at accelerating tourism growth in Turkmenistan and the wider Central Asian region.
