This Saturday marks the commencement of the UAE National MMA Championship 5, hosted at the UAE University’s indoor hall in Al Ain. The UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation has confirmed that all preparations are in place for this two-day showdown. As a significant event in the UAE's sporting calendar, it draws both youth and adult fighters from various clubs.
An impressive lineup of around 300 athletes from multiple clubs and academies will be competing. This robust turnout reflects the increasing enthusiasm for mixed martial arts among younger generations. Organisers are poised for a thrilling event, featuring many talented fighters eager to showcase their skills.
The championship encompasses several age categories. It will kick off with Youth D for athletes aged 10–11, followed by Youth C for ages 12–13, Youth B for ages 14–15, and Youth A for ages 16–17. The adult division, for those 18 and older, will conclude the event. This format allows participants to compete against peers in their age bracket, facilitating progressive skill improvement.
Obaid Al Ketbi, an athlete from ADMA Academy competing in the Youth A category, expressed his enthusiasm for the competition. He noted that this event provides a valuable opportunity for assessing his seasonal progress. Al Ketbi emphasized that facing competitors with diverse styles enhances his technical prowess and physical conditioning while offering crucial experience.
Federation officials stated that the championship is designed to nurture emerging talent and encourage growth within the sport. They are confident that competitions such as this will foster the next generation of MMA stars in the UAE and contribute to a vibrant sporting culture.
With robust organisation, high participation rates, and a surging interest in the sport, the UAE National MMA Championship 5 is set to provide an exhilarating weekend of sporting excitement. This event underscores the UAE's dedication to promoting combat sports and fostering a new wave of athletes.
