Ukraine is in talks with the United States and other partner countries to secure additional military support, including long-range weapons, President Volodymyr Zelensky said. The announcement comes in addition to an existing $90 billion arms agreement with the US.
Speaking from Kyiv, Zelensky said details of the new deals could not yet be disclosed. Ukraine currently relies on its long-range drone capabilities to target military and energy installations deep inside Russian territory.
A Ukrainian delegation is scheduled to meet US officials in the coming weeks to work out the technical aspects of the weapons purchase. These discussions follow broad agreements reached between Zelensky and US President Donald Trump at the UN General Assembly.
Zelensky also noted that US technical teams will collaborate with Ukraine to explore the purchase of Ukrainian drones by the US. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko will meet with US officials in October to discuss potential projects under the joint investment fund agreed earlier this year.
In addition, Ukraine is sharing its expertise in countering drone swarms—tactics that have become a key feature of Russia’s invasion since 2022—with allied nations. “We will send consulting teams to other countries to demonstrate how to defend against such attacks,” Zelensky said, adding that some countries will send representatives to Ukraine to learn these methods firsthand.
Ukraine recently received a US-made Patriot air defence system from Israel and expects two more units this fall. Zelensky also highlighted recent drone breaches into neighboring countries, including Poland, where 92 UAVs were intercepted, though 19 reached eastern Poland. A Hungarian drone was also reported over Ukrainian territory, which Hungary has denied.
