Malaysia’s ruling party United Malays National Organisation (Umno) is set to decide on applications from former members seeking to rejoin the party under its “Rumah Bangsa” initiative.
The decision is expected to be made during the party’s supreme council meeting scheduled to take place in Melaka, where the first batch of applications will be reviewed for approval.
Senior party leader Ahmad Maslan expressed confidence that the applications would be accepted, highlighting ongoing efforts to reunify former members and strengthen party unity.
The Rumah Bangsa initiative aims to welcome back individuals who were previously dismissed or suspended, as well as attract new members, including younger generations.
Officials confirmed that the process is open and unconditional, requiring only a simple application with basic identification details for administrative purposes.
The initiative comes ahead of Umno’s anniversary celebrations and is seen as part of a broader strategy to consolidate support and rebuild its political base.
Notably, prominent former leaders such as Hishammuddin Hussein and Khairy Jamaluddin have reportedly expressed interest in returning to the party.
The move reflects shifting dynamics within Malaysia’s political landscape, as parties seek to strengthen internal cohesion and prepare for future electoral challenges.
