The United States secured a narrow 2-1 victory over the Dominican Republic in the semifinal of the World Baseball Classic, booking its place in the tournament’s championship game for the third consecutive time. The game was played in LoanDepot Park in Miami and featured a strong pitching duel along with timely hitting from the American lineup.
The Dominican Republic took an early lead in the second inning when Junior Caminero launched a 401-foot home run. The United States responded in the fourth inning when Gunnar Henderson hit a solo homer to level the score. Later in the inning, Roman Anthony delivered the decisive hit with another home run that gave the Americans a 2-1 advantage.
Starting pitcher Paul Skenes held the Dominican lineup to one run over 4⅓ innings, while the U.S. bullpen maintained the lead. Closer Mason Miller sealed the victory with a tense ninth inning to record the save. Despite a late threat led by Julio Rodríguez, the Dominican Republic was unable to equalize.
With the victory, Team USA advanced to its third straight WBC championship game after winning the title in 2017 and finishing runner-up in 2023 against Japan. The Americans will now face the winner of the semifinal between Italy and Venezuela in the final.
