A United States Air Force (USAF) B‑1B Lancer strategic bomber was recently spotted on the tarmac at Kempegowda International Airport, drawing attention from passengers and defence observers alike. The visit reflects the enhanced defence cooperation between India and the United States and forms part of preparations for Exercise Cope India 2025, a major bilateral air force exercise hosted by India.
The B‑1B Lancer — a long‑range heavy bomber known for its supersonic speed and sizeable payload capacity — is operated by the US Air Force’s 28th Bomb Wing from Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. Its presence in Bengaluru signals continued engagement under the Indo‑US strategic partnership, which includes joint training and interoperability drills aimed at bolstering regional security and defense readiness.
This is not the first time the bomber has visited India. The B‑1B has participated in previous editions of air exercises and airshows — including its appearance at Bengaluru for Exercise Cope India 2023 — underscoring the enduring military collaboration between the two nations.
The visit also comes amid broader efforts by India and the United States to deepen their defence ties, with both sides regularly engaging in joint military drills and strategic dialogues to address shared security challenges in the Indo‑Pacific region.
