BYD has unveiled a groundbreaking advancement in electric vehicle technology that could significantly change the future of transportation. The company introduced a new “flash charging” system capable of dramatically reducing EV charging times.

According to the announcement, the new technology allows electric vehicles to charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes. This brings EV charging speeds closer to the convenience of traditional fuel refueling, addressing one of the biggest concerns among potential EV users.

The system uses ultra-high-power chargers delivering up to 1,500 kW. With this capability, some vehicles can gain up to 500 kilometers of driving range in only five minutes, making long-distance travel more practical for electric vehicle owners.

Even more notably, the technology can charge a vehicle up to nearly 97% in approximately nine minutes. This sets a new global benchmark in EV charging speed and highlights rapid progress in battery and charging infrastructure innovation.

Industry experts believe that such advancements could accelerate the global shift toward electric mobility. Faster charging reduces downtime and makes EVs more appealing to consumers who are hesitant due to long charging durations.
