A growing road safety concern is emerging across India as stray animals, including dogs and cattle, increasingly pose a serious threat to motorists, particularly during night-time driving. Poor visibility, dimly lit roads, and the sudden movement of animals have led to a noticeable rise in accidents and traffic disruptions across both urban and rural areas.

Reports and visual evidence from various regions show animals frequently wandering onto highways and city roads after dark, leaving drivers with little time to react. Two-wheeler riders are especially vulnerable in such situations, often facing severe injuries, vehicle damage, and in some cases, fatal consequences due to unexpected collisions.

Authorities, including the Supreme Court of India, have expressed concern over the increasing number of incidents related to stray animals, including road accidents and dog bite cases. Civic bodies have been urged to strengthen animal control systems, improve street lighting, and implement stricter monitoring to enhance commuter safety.

Experts advise drivers to exercise extra caution while traveling at night by reducing speed, using high-beam lights responsibly, and staying alert in areas prone to animal movement. As traffic continues to grow across the country, coordinated efforts between authorities and communities will be essential to address this rising challenge and ensure safer roads.
