Turkmen diplomatic missions around the world organized large-scale cycling events to celebrate World Bicycle Day, highlighting the importance of healthy living, environmental protection, and international friendship. The celebrations were held across several countries and reflected Turkmenistan’s continued commitment to promoting cycling as a sustainable and accessible form of transportation and recreation.
World Bicycle Day is observed annually on June 3 following its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 through an initiative proposed by Turkmenistan. Since then, the occasion has become an important international event that encourages physical activity, environmental responsibility, and sustainable urban mobility.
In France, the Embassy of Turkmenistan organized a mass cycling event in Paris that brought together diplomats, members of the Turkmen community, students, and local participants. During the gathering, Ambassador M. Charyev emphasized that cycling serves as a symbol of friendship, healthy lifestyles, and environmental awareness while creating opportunities for people from different backgrounds to come together.
Similar celebrations were organized in Georgia, where a bicycle ride was held through the streets of Tbilisi and the historic city of Mtskheta. The event was attended by representatives of the Georgian National Cycling Federation, athletes, coaches, and members of the local community. Participants also celebrated the upcoming 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence.
In Türkiye, the Embassy of Turkmenistan hosted sporting activities and a bicycle ride along a specially designated cycling route near Ankara’s Eymir Lake. The event attracted diplomats, students, media representatives, cycling enthusiasts, and members of the Turkmen diaspora. Organizers highlighted the role of cycling in improving public health and supporting environmental sustainability.
Additional cycling events were held in Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, and Russia. In Riyadh, community members and residents joined a mass ride promoting healthy lifestyles and environmental awareness. In Moscow, students, diplomats, and members of the Turkmen diaspora participated in a traditional bicycle ride that showcased Turkmenistan’s achievements in sports development and public health initiatives.
Officials noted that cycling continues to gain popularity around the world as a simple, affordable, and environmentally friendly means of transportation. Through these international events, Turkmenistan aims to strengthen global awareness of sustainable development, encourage active lifestyles, and contribute to broader international efforts supporting public health and environmental protection.
