Serdar Berdimuhamedov has proposed developing a new resolution at the United Nations General Assembly to address the environmental challenges of the Aral Sea. The proposal was presented during a meeting of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea held in Astana.
The initiative calls on Central Asian countries to work together in drafting a new resolution that reflects current global economic and geopolitical conditions. The goal is to improve cooperation and bring more attention to the environmental crisis affecting the Aral Sea region.
President Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the proposed resolution would help attract more international investment and donor support. Increased funding is considered essential for implementing large-scale environmental and restoration projects in the region.
He also noted that the initiative is in the interest of all member countries of IFAS. It aims to strengthen collaboration between regional governments and international organizations working on environmental protection and sustainable development.
The proposal highlights the need for closer cooperation with global financial institutions and international partners. This includes working more actively with UN agencies and specialized organizations to improve the effectiveness of ongoing programs.
The Aral Sea crisis remains one of the most serious environmental issues in Central Asia, with long-term impacts on ecosystems, climate, and local communities. Efforts to restore the region require strong international coordination and sustained investment.
The new resolution, if developed and adopted, is expected to enhance global engagement and create better opportunities for addressing the environmental challenges of the Aral Sea in a more effective and coordinated manner.
