A moderate 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck the Anchorage metropolitan area in Alaska on Thursday morning, sending light tremors across several communities but causing no major destruction, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake hit at 8:11 a.m. local time at a depth of 69 kilometers (43 miles). USGS officials said the epicenter was located 12 kilometers (7 miles) west-northwest of Susitna, an area roughly 108 kilometers (67 miles) northwest of Anchorage.

No Serious Damage Found After Inspections

Local authorities quickly began checks across the region. Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance shared on social media that municipal inspectors did not find any issues in key public infrastructure, confirming that essential services remained unaffected.

Emergency officials also confirmed that no tsunami threat was expected, as announced by the U.S. Tsunami Warning System.
