The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has established a strategic alliance with the global biopharmaceutical firm Boehringer Ingelheim to boost precision medicine research by utilizing Abu Dhabi's sophisticated genomics resources.

This partnership was formalized at the BIO International Convention 2026 in San Diego, focusing on deepening the scientific understanding of genetic influences on disease progression and treatment responses.

Research to address various medical conditions

The collaboration will undertake extensive studies spanning major health issues as well as rare diseases. This includes conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and neurological disorders.

Such research aims to enhance the comprehension of disease mechanisms and advance personalized treatment strategies for patients.

Innovative genomics ecosystem of Abu Dhabi

Leveraging Abu Dhabi's robust genomics and biobanking infrastructure, the collaboration is set to generate crucial insights that can lead to more tailored healthcare solutions.

By integrating advanced genomic studies with healthcare data, the initiative seeks to foster the evolution of precision medicine and elevate patient care standards.

Official commitment to personalized healthcare

Dr. Asma Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Health Life Sciences Sector at DoH, commented that the partnership underscores the emirate's dedication to enhancing population health research while reinforcing personalized medicine.

She emphasized that the collaboration illustrates Abu Dhabi's ongoing commitment to leveraging scientific advancements to enhance healthcare outcomes.

Boehringer Ingelheim targeting unmet medical needs

Boehringer Ingelheim highlighted that the collaboration is aimed at addressing unmet medical requirements by amalgamating cutting-edge research, data, and innovation.

The company noted that this partnership is geared towards optimizing patient outcomes while advancing the region's healthcare future.
