India have made a change to their squad for the upcoming one-day international series against New Zealand, bringing fast bowler Auqib Nabi into the team for the first three matches. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the selection update on Saturday, October 31, following an injury setback involving pacer Prasidh Krishna. Nabi was initially selected for the fourth and fifth matches of the five-game series. However, the team management has now included him from the opening match, giving the 29-year-old an opportunity to be part of India's plans from the beginning of the series. The change comes after Prasidh Krishna was ruled out of the first part of the series due to a hamstring injury. Nabi's inclusion provides India with another pace-bowling option as the team prepares for a challenging schedule against New Zealand. The India vs New Zealand ODI series will begin on November 4 and continue until November 15. The two teams will then move on to a two-match Test series, scheduled to start on November 19.
The selection update means Auqib Nabi will now be available for India's opening three one-day internationals against New Zealand. The 29-year-old fast bowler made his international debut against the West Indies in September. Although he was originally named only for the final two matches of the ODI series, the latest decision brings him into the squad from the start. His promotion comes at an important stage for India's bowling combination, with Prasidh Krishna unavailable because of a hamstring problem. Nabi's inclusion also gives the team another option in the pace department while the selectors and team management prepare for the five-match contest. The Auqib Nabi selection is therefore one of the key changes in India's squad ahead of the opening ODI.
India's squad adjustment follows the injury setback suffered by Prasidh Krishna. The pacer has been ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury. His absence prompted the team to bring Nabi into the group earlier than originally planned. Krishna's unavailability means India will have to proceed without him during the opening stage of the ODI contest. The available squad includes several other pace-bowling options, including Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Anshul Kamboj and Gurnoor Brar. The latest announcement confirms Nabi's availability for the first three matches, while the previously announced squad for the final two ODIs also includes his name.
Shubman Gill will lead India in the first three matches of the series. The squad includes experienced players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, along with several other established and emerging members of the team.
India's squad for the first three ODIs is:
Shubman Gill (Captain)
Rohit Sharma
Virat Kohli
Shreyas Iyer
KL Rahul
Axar Patel
Naman Dhir
Anshul Kamboj
Gurnoor Brar
Ruturaj Gaikwad
Arshdeep Singh
Ishan Kishan
Mohammed Siraj
Kuldeep Yadav
Nitish Kumar Reddy (First ODI only)
Auqib Nabi
The selection includes a combination of experienced international players and younger cricketers. Shubman Gill will captain the side for the opening three games, while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli bring considerable international experience to the batting group. Nitish Kumar Reddy has been included only for the first ODI, making his availability limited to the series opener according to the announced squad.

The team composition for the final two matches is different in certain positions. Shreyas Iyer has been named captain for the fourth and fifth ODIs. Auqib Nabi was already part of this squad before being added to the first three matches. His name therefore appears in both squad announcements.
India's squad for the fourth and fifth ODIs is:
Shreyas Iyer (Captain)
Rohit Sharma
Virat Kohli
Tilak Varma
Ishan Kishan
Axar Patel
Naman Dhir
Auqib Nabi
Gurnoor Brar
Ruturaj Gaikwad
Arshdeep Singh
Kumar Kushagra
Mohammed Siraj
Yash Thakur
Kuldeep Yadav
The change in captaincy between the two squad groups is another important feature of India's selection plan for the series. Shubman Gill will lead the side in the first three matches, while Shreyas Iyer is listed as captain for the last two.
The five-match ODI series between India and New Zealand is scheduled to run from November 4 to November 15. The contest will be followed by a two-match Test series, with the first Test scheduled to begin on November 19. The back-to-back white-ball and red-ball fixtures will make this an important period for both teams. India's squad arrangements reflect the different player combinations announced for the opening three matches and the final two games. With Nabi now added to the first three ODIs, India have adjusted their pace-bowling options following Krishna's injury. The opening match will also be an opportunity for the Indian team to begin the series with its announced leadership group, featuring Gill as captain and experienced players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Nabi's addition gives India another fast-bowling option for the opening part of the series. His international debut against the West Indies in September means he has already made his entry into the national team. The change also highlights how injuries can affect squad planning ahead of a multi-match international series. Prasidh Krishna's hamstring injury has led to an adjustment in India's original selection, bringing Nabi into the first three matches rather than restricting his involvement to the final two. The Indian cricket team will now prepare for the opening ODI with Nabi included in the squad. His role in the playing XI, however, will depend on the team's final selection for each match. For India, the immediate focus will be on the five-match ODI contest before attention shifts to the Test series beginning November 19.
