ADPHC Secures Esteemed LEED Platinum Certification for Sustainability

ADPHC Secures Esteemed LEED Platinum Certification for Sustainability

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) is proud to announce its attainment of the prestigious LEED Platinum Certification under the LEED v4.1 Operations and Maintenance (O+M) system, representing the pinnacle of achievement in the globally renowned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) initiative.

This remarkable accomplishment underscores ADPHC's dedication to sustainability and its mission to foster healthier, energy-efficient, and environmentally conscious environments for both staff and visitors. By embedding sustainable practices into everyday operations, the centre has emerged as a model for organizations throughout the Middle East.

As part of the certification journey, ADPHC underwent a detailed energy audit to evaluate building performance and pinpoint areas for enhancement. A range of sustainability initiatives were enacted, such as upgrading heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, enhancing lighting efficacy, improving waste management strategies, utilizing sustainable certified products, implementing green cleaning protocols, and improving indoor air quality standards.

These initiatives resulted in impressive outcomes. Energy usage per individual was decreased by 36%, water consumption was slashed by 42%, and recycling levels soared to 44%. These advancements enabled ADPHC to earn the coveted LEED Platinum certification.

His Excellency Dr Rashed Alsuwaidi, Director General of ADPHC, emphasized that this recognition is a testament to the organization’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding both environmental and human wellbeing. He pointed out that environmental factors are directly linked to community health, stressing the importance of exemplifying sustainable practices.

Dr Alsuwaidi further highlighted that ADPHC’s sustainability efforts align with the UAE’s Net Zero ambitions and Abu Dhabi’s strategy for a more sustainable, resilient tomorrow.

ADPHC has consistently bolstered its sustainability agenda over recent years. In 2023, the centre released its inaugural Sustainability Report, detailing quantifiable advancements in carbon reduction, waste minimization, and resource efficiency.

The LEED Platinum certification underscores ADPHC's conviction that environmental sustainability and public health are intertwined, with responsible environmental practices essential for enhancing community health and resilience.
