Anupam Kher Shares Humorous Tales of Bhaang and Marijuana

Anupam Kher Shares Humorous Tales of Bhaang and Marijuana

Post by : Maya Rahman

Iconic actor Anupam Kher recently revealed amusing stories from his past involving marijuana and bhaang on the podcast Unfiltered by Samdish. The 70-year-old actor discussed how these experiences influenced his choice to steer clear of such substances.

Kher recounted a particular encounter with marijuana, saying, “I took a couple of drags and stared up at the sky. I noticed a plane taking off and kept watching it until it was just a dot. I think I kept gazing until it landed at Heathrow Airport,” he recalled.

The actor described the disorienting effects of the drug, admitting, “I went a bit crazy. When I got into my car afterward, I was unsure if the road was moving or if I was.” This overwhelming experience pushed him to avoid marijuana in the future.

His encounters with bhaang at the National School of Drama (NSD) were even more vivid. “Once I pursued it, I vowed never to try it again after laughing uncontrollably for eight straight hours,” Kher shared. He also noted how his classmates reacted in such a state, exclaiming to the warden, “The army is coming!” Kher laughed and implored them to rescue him.

He detailed an absurd moment of confusion, waiting for a friend to reply and wondering why there was no response. “It felt like scenes out of Jim Carrey's film The Mask. After that incident, I never touched bhaang again,” he added.

Kher also reminisced about an instance when airport officials thought the incense in his bag was a drug. His wife, Kirron Kher, inadvertently escalated the situation by saying, “Charas lekar ghoom rahe ho (Are you carrying hashish)?” He humorously responded, “If I get out of this, I’m divorcing you!”

Through these anecdotes, Kher emphasized the lasting impact of early substance encounters that were both entertaining and daunting. He underscored that these moments shaped his life choices, teaching him to avoid substances like marijuana and bhaang.

Anupam Kher’s recollections offer a lighthearted insight into the entertaining and unpredictable aspects of his youth, illustrating that even celebrities have their share of amusing stories. His reflections highlight the lessons learned from youthful curiosity, which can lead to extraordinary and unforgettable experiences.
