Bharti Singh Faces Backlash for Comment on Ayesha Khan’s Appearance

Bharti Singh Faces Backlash for Comment on Ayesha Khan’s Appearance

Post by : Meena Ariff

Returning as the host of Laughter Chefs Season 3, comedian Bharti Singh brought her usual flair, but a recent episode stirred controversy. During the show, she made a remark regarding actress Ayesha Khan's height, shockingly leaving fans and viewers aghast. The cast of the film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, which included Warina, Ayesha, Tridha, and Parul Gulati, performed a dance to the song Pahli Uddi Furrr to promote their film. What started as a light-hearted segment turned awkward when Bharti drew a comparison between Ayesha and comedian Krushna Abhishek.

Ayesha visibly bristled at the comment, trying to shield her stomach with her hand while seeking support from Kapil Sharma on set. Parul Gulati also called Bharti out directly, stating, “You shouldn’t have said this.” Bharti, seemingly unfazed by the backlash, responded, “Sorry, I am pregnant,” trying to frame her joke as harmless. However, viewers were not pleased, taking to social media to voice their frustrations.

The clip surged in popularity on social platforms, with numerous criticisms labeling Bharti's joke as body-shaming. Users pointed out the irony of Bharti, who has built her career in part on her own physicality, making such a comment on national television. Social media echoed sentiments about the harmful implications of making jokes about someone’s body. Fans described the remark as disrespectful and misogynistic, empathizing with Ayesha’s evident embarrassment and discomfort. Many suggested that such comments from public figures perpetuate body-shaming and unhealthy societal norms.

This incident has prompted a broader dialogue about the etiquette of comedy and the responsibilities of celebrities while interacting with viewers. While humor is undoubtedly subjective, many argue that it should not come at the expense of one's dignity or self-esteem. The criticism directed at Bharti Singh marks an evolving awareness among audiences about respect and sensitivity in entertainment. Fans are advocating for comedians and hosts to be conscientious with their words, promoting humor that uplifts rather than diminishes others.

Although Bharti Singh is praised for her comedic prowess, this episode serves as a clear reminder of the fine line between humor and insensitivity. Audiences are increasingly demanding accountability from public figures regarding comments that, while trivial to some, can have a detrimental effect on others. The discussion surrounding this episode highlights the pressing need for a more responsible form of comedy that ensures that laughter doesn’t come at the cost of anyone's self-worth.
