Police in Cameron Highlands arrested two Myanmar men, aged 21 and 23, early Tuesday morning after a violent stabbing that left a fellow countryman dead and his wife injured. The incident took place in Tringkap on Monday night, raising concerns over violent crimes in the region.
Cameron Highlands district police chief, Supt Azri Ramli, stated that authorities received a distress call around 11:54 pm on Monday. Officers promptly located and apprehended the two suspects near the crime scene.
“The victim, a 50-year-old man, was found unconscious and covered in blood. His wife had sustained head injuries,” Supt Azri said. During the arrest, police confiscated several weapons, including two knives and a steel rod.
The victim was immediately taken to Sultanah Hajah Kalsom Hospital in Tanah Rata, where he was pronounced dead. A forensic examination conducted at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital revealed the cause of death as a severed carotid artery. The report also noted multiple injuries to the victim’s neck, head, chin, right cheek, and under the right ear, caused by a sharp object. A five-centimeter slash along the abdomen was also found.
Both suspects have been remanded in court under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Police continue to probe the motive behind the attack, while the local community remains shaken by the brutality.
Authorities urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
