Canada has officially declared the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang as a terrorist organization, giving law enforcement authorities the power to freeze or seize the gang’s assets, including cash, vehicles, and property. This move strengthens Canada’s ability to prosecute Bishnoi gang members and curb their illegal activities.
The Bishnoi gang, led by Lawrence Bishnoi, has been linked to multiple high-profile murders, extortion, and trafficking of drugs and weapons in India and abroad. Among the cases associated with the gang are the killings of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala in May 2022, Maharashtra politician Baba Siddique in October 2024, Rajput leader Sukhdev Gogamedi in December 2023, and Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Nijjar in Canada in June 2023. The gang has also been implicated in attacks outside Bollywood star Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence.
Lawrence Bishnoi, born in 1993 in Punjab, India, first gained notoriety during his time at Panjab University, Chandigarh, where he entered student politics and formed a criminal partnership with Goldy Brar. Despite being in jail since August 2023 for a drug smuggling case, Bishnoi continues to manage his gang from prison using mobile phones and encrypted communication channels.
The gang operates like a well-structured organization with separate units for logistics, intelligence, and legal matters. Bishnoi reportedly has nearly 700 gunmen at his disposal, who are employed for targeted killings, extortion, and other criminal activities both in India and abroad, including Canada.
The designation of the Bishnoi gang as a terrorist organization allows Canadian authorities to deny entry to suspected gang members and freeze assets linked to the gang. Law enforcement agencies in both India and Canada are coordinating efforts to dismantle the gang and hold its members accountable.
This crackdown is expected to significantly impact the gang’s operations and curb their influence internationally, marking a major step in combating organized crime linked to the Bishnoi gang
