Flash floods swept through Putian in China's Fujian Province after intense rainfall overwhelmed drainage systems and submerged several roads across the city. Floodwaters quickly covered low-lying neighbourhoods, causing major traffic disruptions and making travel difficult for residents.
Authorities are monitoring the situation as emergency teams respond to affected areas.
Streets Turn Into Rivers
Videos circulating online showed roads transformed into fast-moving streams as vehicles struggled to drive through deep floodwater. Several cars became partially submerged while traffic slowed across multiple parts of the city.
Officials urged motorists to avoid flooded roads until water levels recede.
Low-Lying Areas Worst Affected
The heaviest flooding occurred in low-lying sections of Putian, where poor drainage and continuous rainfall caused water to accumulate rapidly. Some streets remained underwater for several hours, affecting daily activities and transportation.
Local authorities continued pumping operations to remove standing water.
Emergency Teams Monitor Conditions
Emergency services were deployed to monitor flood-prone locations and assist where necessary. Authorities warned residents to stay alert as additional rainfall could increase the risk of further flooding in vulnerable areas.
Weather officials are closely tracking the developing conditions.
Traffic and Daily Life Disrupted
Flooded roads caused significant traffic congestion, forcing many commuters to seek alternative routes. Public safety officials advised people to avoid unnecessary travel while cleanup operations continue.
