CNN reporters were prevented from travelling with President Donald Trump on Saturday, September 26, in the latest development in an ongoing dispute between the White House and several major US news organisations. CNN had been scheduled to provide television coverage as part of the rotating presidential press pool for Trump’s trip to Tennessee. However, a White House schedule released on Friday evening did not include CNN or the other major television networks that normally participate in the rotation. Instead, the schedule listed a “Secondary TV” correspondent and crew from Lindell TV, an outlet operated by businessman Mike Lindell, a prominent Trump ally. The change means CNN will not carry out the pool assignment it had been scheduled to perform during the president’s trip.

Decision Comes After Court Restored CNN Access

The latest dispute follows a much broader confrontation over CNN White House Access. Last week, the Trump administration moved to block CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House complex. The administration accused the organisations of publishing negative or inaccurate coverage of the president. The three organisations challenged the decision in federal court, arguing that the restrictions violated constitutional protections involving freedom of the press and due process. On September 24, US District Judge Timothy Kelly ordered the administration to restore the journalists’ access. The judge said the decision to revoke the organisations’ press credentials was likely unconstitutional and ordered the government to return their access. The order allowed reporters from CNN, MS NOW and Politico to return to the White House grounds.
