In a significant development, Narottam Prasad has been apprehended by the Delhi Police for the murder of his wife, an incident dating back 15 years. The accused was eventually located in Gujarat and returned to Delhi, where legal proceedings are set to commence.
The grim occurrence took place on May 31, 2010, when officers uncovered the decomposed remains of a 25-year-old woman in Jahangirpuri. Initially, a suicide note found at the scene misled investigators into believing her death was a suicide. While early inquiries raised suspicions about her husband, Narottam Prasad, he managed to evade capture, with a reward of Rs 10,000 offered for information on his whereabouts.
After years of evading justice, police received a lead in 2025 that pinpointed Prasad in Vadodara, Gujarat. Acting with urgency, the Delhi Police tracked him down in the Chhota Udaipur region, where he had been living incognito while employed as a manager in a cotton factory.
During questioning, Prasad revealed that marital conflicts had flared up shortly after their wedding. In a fit of anger, he confessed to killing his wife and fabricating a suicide note to mislead the investigation.
This arrest closes a longstanding cold case in Delhi and underscores the unwavering commitment of law enforcement to seek justice, even years later. Authorities have confirmed that Prasad will now face comprehensive legal action.
This incident serves as a powerful illustration of the necessity for thorough investigations and the relentless determination of the police to resolve long-dormant cases.
