On Tuesday, Hamad Mansour Albloushi, a healthcare professional from the UAE, marked a remarkable milestone by becoming the first passenger on Etihad Rail's newly inaugurated service. From Seat 1 in Coach 1, he embarked on a journey from Fujairah to Abu Dhabi, initiating the long-anticipated national passenger railway network.
Describing the experience as unforgettable, Albloushi acknowledged, "Seated in Seat 1, Coach 1, I realized this journey is merely the first of countless others to come. It's a privilege that will stay with me forever."
Albloushi was chosen as the inaugural passenger following a nationwide nomination campaign aimed at identifying "the passenger who embodies all of us."
His commitment to community service and humanitarian efforts, including volunteering with Emirates Red Crescent and Jusoor Al Khair, led to his selection.
Albloushi expressed his feelings, stating, "While I've been acknowledged for my community efforts, today I feel I represent everyone optimistic about our nation's future. This honor is beyond description."
Alongside 400 passengers, Albloushi was part of the inaugural journey that commenced at Al Hilal City at 5:34 AM, reaching Abu Dhabi by 7:00 AM, a full 20 minutes ahead of schedule.
The launch has generated immense public interest, with over 10,000 tickets sold following the opening of bookings.
Passengers lauded the journey for its comfort and efficiency.
Krishnie Manipalan, traveling with friends, remarked, "From check-in to arrival, everything was structured for our convenience. It felt effortless." She added that not only was the train speedy, but it also offered a relaxing environment. "The surprise wasn’t solely the speed; it was how tranquil the experience felt."
Passenger Rizwana Shoukat Safdari highlighted how the journey contributed to a memorable family outing.
Her children had been looking forward to the launch, and she said, "They’ll always remember being among the first passengers of the UAE's railway system. This is something truly special."
She noted that the journey was thoroughly convenient for families. "Traveling with kids can often be stressful, but today was easy and enjoyable, with the children loving the views from the windows."
Adhraa Almansoori, Executive Director at Etihad Rail Mobility, remarked that the passengers on this inaugural service share a piece of UAE's history.
Almansoori noted the palpable excitement at railway stations, as families gathered, photographers clicked, and joyous celebrations commenced at the start of passenger rail services in the UAE. "Today's focus has always been on our passengers. Observing families on the platforms, capturing memories before boarding, and the excitement as the first train set off has underscored the importance of this initiative," she added.
She concluded, "Every person aboard today has become part of the narrative surrounding the UAE's inaugural national passenger rail service. They’ll be able to share their stories from this significant day for years down the line."
