Deadly Russian Airstrikes Claim Lives in Kharkiv Region

Deadly Russian Airstrikes Claim Lives in Kharkiv Region

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Early Tuesday, local officials reported that Russian airstrikes in Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region resulted in the deaths of at least four individuals and injuries to 10 more.

Oleg Synegubov, the Kharkiv Regional Governor, confirmed the fatalities occurred in the city of Chuguiv, including a 22-year-old woman. The assault inflicted serious damage on essential civilian infrastructure.

The strikes triggered several fires and caused extensive damage, affecting at least 18 vehicles, shattering windows, and compromising the facades of numerous residential buildings.

Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov also noted that the attacks had resulted in 10 injuries within the city of Kharkiv.

The frequency of Russian assaults on Ukrainian cities has grown markedly in recent months, leading to civilian casualties and widespread devastation. Ukraine has countered with increased drone operations within Russian territory, targeting military and energy-related sites.

Since the inception of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, civilian casualties have surged dramatically.

A UN report from April estimates that over 15,850 civilians have died in areas controlled by Ukraine since the conflict began, with more than 2,800 deaths reported in Russian-controlled regions.

In total, reports indicate that more than 44,800 civilians have sustained injuries across both Ukrainian and Russian-occupied territories, revealing the ongoing toll of the war.
