Indonesia's Industrial Estates Employ 2.35 Million Workers

Indonesia's Industrial Estates Employ 2.35 Million Workers

Post by : Shakul

Indonesia's industrial estates now employ 2.35 million workers, marking a 15 percent increase compared with 2024. The Industry Ministry also reported that realized investment has reached Rp6,744.58 trillion (about US$377.8 billion), highlighting continued growth in the country's manufacturing sector.

Industrial Estates Expand Across the Country

Industry Ministry Director General Tri Supondy said Indonesia currently has 179 industrial estates covering more than 101,351 hectares. These estates have an occupancy rate of 57.2 percent and are home to 11,970 tenant companies, while industrial land expanded by more than 1,500 hectares.

Why Are Indonesia's Industrial Estates Growing?

Government officials said industrial estates are attracting long-term domestic and foreign investment because they provide integrated manufacturing facilities, better infrastructure and business support. The expansion is helping strengthen Indonesia's industrial competitiveness while creating more employment opportunities.

Manufacturing Expansion Beyond Java

The ministry noted that industrial development is becoming more balanced nationwide. Around 61 percent of industrial estate land is now located outside Java, while the remaining 39 percent is on the island. Indonesia currently has 106 industrial estates in Java and 73 outside Java, reflecting broader regional development.

Challenges Still Remain

Despite the progress, officials acknowledged challenges involving land-use certainty, environmental protection, energy supply, logistics infrastructure and licensing procedures. The government is also working to improve investment incentives, strengthen institutional capacity and expand support for small and medium-sized industries.

What Does This Growth Mean?

The rapid expansion of Indonesia's industrial estates demonstrates the country's ambition to become a leading manufacturing and investment destination in Southeast Asia. Continued industrial development, improved infrastructure and regulatory reforms are expected to support economic growth, job creation and increased foreign investment over the coming years.
