A strong earthquake measuring 6.9 magnitude struck near the eastern coast of Honshu, Japan, on Thursday morning. The earthquake occurred at around 6:30 AM local time and its epicentre was located approximately 64 kilometres southeast of Hachinohe.
Earthquake Details
The earthquake originated at a depth of about 79 kilometres beneath the Earth's surface. The epicentre was located in the Pacific Ocean off Japan's northeastern coastline. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation for any further seismic activity.
No Tsunami Threat Reported
Officials confirmed that the earthquake does not pose any tsunami threat to Malaysia. Based on the initial assessment, the depth and location of the quake significantly reduced the possibility of generating dangerous tsunami waves.
Situation Under Close Monitoring
Emergency and meteorological authorities continue to monitor the affected region for possible aftershocks. As of now, there have been no immediate reports of major casualties or significant infrastructure damage.
