KHDA Unveils 'Skills for Life' Program to Empower Future Generations in Dubai

Post by : Badri Ariffin

In alignment with directives from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) is set to launch the ambitious new program titled ‘Skills for Life’.

Aimed at cultivating a robust educational landscape, the program seeks to impart crucial life skills to learners in Dubai, preparing them for the demands of a rapidly shifting global environment. The initiative is scheduled to commence in the 2026–27 academic year, adapting over time to meet evolving educational, social, and workforce demands.

Objective of the 'Skills for Life' Program

The initiative's primary aim is to reshape the educational journey into a lifelong endeavor that transcends traditional learning paths. Emphasizing preparation for practical challenges, personal development, and future career opportunities, it sets out to foster holistic growth.

Spanning all age groups from childhood to adulthood, the program focuses on continuous personal growth, equipping individuals with essential practical skills, emotional resilience, and social consciousness.

Aligned closely with Dubai’s Education 33 Strategy, it intends to forge an innovative, adaptable education system that promotes lifelong learning.

Learning Focus Areas

The ‘Skills for Life’ program will encompass a comprehensive spectrum of life skills tailored for integration within educational settings and curricula throughout Dubai. The key focus areas include:

  • Nutrition and Healthy Living: Fostering informed dietary choices and physical well-being
  • Financial Literacy: Equipping learners with skills in budgeting and responsible spending
  • Relationship Skills: Cultivating effective communication, empathy, and teamwork
  • Mental Health and Resilience: Encouraging emotional stability and stress management
  • Digital Safety and Skills: Promoting responsible technology usage and digital literacy
  • Sustainability Awareness: Advocating for environmental responsibility
  • Life Management Skills: Helping with critical life decisions and fostering independence

These competencies are designed to equip learners for a future increasingly driven by technology and globalization.

Preparing for Future Challenges

The program focuses on instilling adaptability, confidence, and a strong sense of purpose among learners, ensuring they can navigate their educational and career pathways successfully.

Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of well-being and sustainability, producing not just job-ready individuals but responsible citizens committed to their communities.

Support from National Education Vision

The initiative is intricately aligned with the National Education Charter, established by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, as well as Dubai’s broader Education 33 (E33) Strategy.

This synergy guarantees adherence to national education priorities focusing on innovation, youth development, and long-term capital growth.

Collaborative Education Efforts

According to KHDA, realizing effective learning necessitates synergy beyond conventional classroom settings. The success of this initiative hinges on collaboration amongst various stakeholders:

  • Educational Institutions
  • Teachers and Academic Bodies
  • Families and Parents
  • Industry Partners
  • Community Groups

Such partnerships aim to craft enriching learning experiences that intertwine education with practical, community-based applications.

Integration with E33 Initiatives

The ‘Skills for Life’ program forms part of a wider strategy, including various key initiatives aimed at reshaping the educational framework in Dubai:

  • Future Astrolabe: Enhancing guidance systems in education
  • City of Students: Improving student experiences across Dubai
  • Life Camps: Offering structured opportunities to acquire practical life skills
  • Learn Anywhere: Elevating educational standards universally
  • Skills for Tomorrow: Identifying essential future skills

These initiatives work cohesively to forge a flexible, innovate educational ecosystem in Dubai.

Global Partnerships for Learning

This program also capitalizes on local and global collaborations to broaden access to premier educational experiences, especially in non-formal settings beyond the traditional status quo.

It encourages youth leadership and fosters internationally recognized academic pathways, enhancing student progression and employability.

The ‘Skills for Life’ initiative marks a pivotal advancement in Dubai’s educational landscape, concentrating on practical skill development and readiness for an ever-evolving world.

With a launch planned for the 2026–27 academic year, this program is poised to define the future of education in Dubai, empowering the next generation for success.
