Football superstar Lionel Messi is reportedly on the verge of adding another Spanish club to his growing football investment portfolio. Spanish second-tier side C.D. Eldense has announced that Messi has reached an agreement in principle to become the club’s new owner. The proposed transaction would see Messi acquire 100 per cent of the shares currently held by Colombian investment group TH Soluciones Group S.A.S., which is Eldense’s majority shareholder. The agreement is yet to be formally completed because several legal, contractual and regulatory procedures remain outstanding. Eldense said the proposed Eldense takeover is still subject to several important procedures. These include final legal and contractual requirements, a due diligence process and mandatory authorization from Spain’s High Council for Sports, commonly known as the CSD. The club has not announced a specific date for completion of the transaction. TH Soluciones Group has also been approached for its response regarding the proposed change in ownership. Eldense was taken over by TH Soluciones Group in October last year. Since then, the club has continued competing in Spain’s second division.

Eldense’s Position in Spanish Football

The club currently occupies 20th position in the Segunda standings and is fighting for its position in the second tier. Eldense’s rise to this level is notable because the club spent many years competing in Spain’s regional football divisions. A potential change in ownership could therefore bring renewed attention and investment to the club. Messi’s international reputation could also significantly increase Eldense’s visibility among football supporters around the world. The Spanish football club could benefit from greater commercial interest if the transaction receives all necessary approvals. However, the final ownership transfer cannot be considered complete until the remaining legal and regulatory requirements have been fulfilled.
