AC Milan Veteran Luka Modric Continues Football Journey at 40+

Croatian football legend Luka Modric has signed a new contract extension with AC Milan, keeping him at the Italian club until June 30, 2027.

The midfielder, who recently turned 40 and will celebrate his 41st birthday soon, continues to play a key role for AC Milan despite his age. The club confirmed that the experienced player will remain part of the Rossoneri squad for another season.

AC Milan described Modric as one of the greatest and most respected players in world football, praising his experience, leadership, and contribution on the pitch.

Modric’s Journey at AC Milan

Luka Modric joined AC Milan in 2025 after leaving Spanish giants Real Madrid, where he enjoyed one of the most successful careers in football history.

During his first season with Milan, Modric made 37 appearances and scored two goals, showing his continued ability to compete at the highest level.

His vision, passing ability, and leadership have made him an important figure in Milan’s midfield as the club looks to return to domestic and European success.

Legendary Career of Luka Modric

Before joining AC Milan, Modric spent more than a decade at Real Madrid, becoming one of the club’s most successful midfielders.

During his time at Real Madrid from 2012 to 2025, he won:

  • Six UEFA Champions League titles
  • Multiple La Liga trophies
  • Numerous individual awards

Modric also achieved global recognition in 2018 when he helped Croatia reach the FIFA World Cup final and won the prestigious Ballon d’Or, becoming the first Croatian player to receive the award.

Croatia’s World Cup Journey

At the latest FIFA World Cup, Modric continued leading Croatia on the international stage.

Croatia reached the knockout stage but suffered a dramatic elimination against Portugal in the Round of 32.

Despite his age, Modric remained a central figure for the national team, demonstrating his long-lasting impact in international football.

AC Milan’s Plans Under New Coach Ruben Amorim

The contract extension comes during a period of rebuilding at AC Milan.

After finishing fifth in Serie A, the club made managerial changes, appointing former Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim as the new head coach.

Milan are aiming to strengthen their squad and compete more strongly in the upcoming season.

The club has also invested in new signings, including:

  • Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain
  • Spanish defender Mario Gila from Lazio

These moves highlight Milan’s ambition to improve their domestic performance and return to the top levels of European football.
