Milind Soman, a prominent fitness advocate and model, has recently celebrated his 60th birthday, yet continues to debunk the myth that age defines ability. He emphasizes that fitness extends beyond mere physical condition; it is largely dictated by one’s attitude toward life. According to Milind, the feeling of youth or age originates from mindset rather than physical appearance.
In his dialogue with Bombay Times, he stated, “It is not your body that dictates your age, but your attitude.” He reflected on his observations of younger individuals who display lethargy, contrasting with older people who rise each morning eager to exercise. Milind articulates that life is not about halting aging—it’s about embracing it with vitality and intention.
Milind has a reputation for tackling extreme physical challenges, such as completing the Ironman triathlon at 50, known as one of the ultimate tests of endurance. He successfully completed it again at 60, along with the #FitIndianRun, which involved running and cycling for 330 kilometers through rugged terrains.
Revisiting his Ironman experience, he shared how the first attempt was about pure willpower while his recent endeavor focused on achieving harmony among mind, body, discipline, and dedication. He believes that age should not hinder activity but a lack of discipline can certainly do so.
Milind also maintains a straightforward and nutritious eating regimen. He starts each day with fruits, opting for simple vegetarian options for lunch and dinner, steering clear of meat due to its digestibility challenges. He posits that a diet rich in clean, natural foods fortifies the body.
He draws motivation from fellow actor Shah Rukh Khan, who, at 60, remains both active and accomplished. Milind pointed out that contemporary society increasingly perceives age as a mere number, prioritizing health and enriching experiences over traditional constraints.
For Milind, embodying youthfulness means effortlessly performing outdoor activities such as running barefoot, swimming long distances, and climbing hills. His vision transcends mere appearance, focusing instead on the joy and freedom that comes with fitness.
