Nepal Protests Return as Political and Communal Tensions Rise

Nepal Protests Return as Political and Communal Tensions Rise

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Youth-led protests have returned to Nepal as political and social tensions continue to increase. Many of those taking part belong to the same Generation Z movement that played a major role in the removal of the previous government in 2025. That movement had protested against corruption allegations and a proposed ban on social media.

The renewed demonstrations reflect continuing public concerns over political and governance issues, with young people once again becoming a visible force in the country's protest movement.

Hindu Nationalist Groups Renew Hindu Rashtra Campaign

At the same time, Hindu nationalist groups and young activists have been organizing rallies and hunger strikes in Kathmandu and several parts of the Madhes region.

The groups are demanding that Nepal be restored as a Hindu Rashtra. They have also raised concerns over illegal immigration and unauthorized structures, making these issues part of their ongoing campaign.

Violence Erupts After Religious Procession Disputes

In late July 2026, communal unrest in Nepal's southern plains turned violent after disagreements during religious processions escalated into clashes.

The violence resulted in several deaths. Reports also stated that mosques, homes, and businesses were attacked during the unrest. In response, authorities imposed curfews in the affected areas to help restore order.

Security Forces Deployed to Restore Order

Security forces were deployed to bring the situation under control as officials worked to contain the violence.

Government representatives also appealed for peace and urged people to remain calm while efforts continued to stabilize the affected regions.

Government Continues Talks With Hindu Organizations

The Nepal government is continuing discussions with Hindu organizations while closely monitoring the developing situation.

Officials are reviewing the groups' demands as the country faces ongoing political protests, communal tensions, and public demonstrations.
