Deadly Factory Blast in Northern China Kills 2, Injures 84, 8 Missing

A powerful explosion tore through a steel factory in northern China on Sunday afternoon, killing two people and injuring 84 others, with eight still reported missing. The blast took place around 3 PM local time at a major steel production plant in Inner Mongolia.

The explosion was strong enough to cause noticeable tremors in the surrounding area. Videos shared online showed thick plumes of smoke rising into the sky while debris, including collapsed ceilings and broken pipes, littered the factory grounds.

Among those hospitalized, five suffered serious injuries and are in critical condition. Emergency teams responded quickly, conducting rescue operations and providing urgent medical care.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion. The steel plant is a significant state-owned enterprise involved in iron and steel manufacturing in the region.

Industrial accidents continue to

pose a serious challenge in China, which has a history of such incidents. In 2015, two massive explosions at a port in Tianjin killed 173 people and injured hundreds, causing extensive damage. More recently, in May last year, an explosion at a chemical plant in eastern China led to five deaths and multiple injuries, with nearby buildings suffering broken windows and other damage.

Following these tragedies, safety regulations and industrial protocols are under close review as officials work to prevent future accidents.
