Oman and CMA CGM Finalize $400 Million Sohar Port Logistics Agreement

Oman and CMA CGM Finalize $400 Million Sohar Port Logistics Agreement

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Oman's state logistics entity, Asyad, has partnered with CMA CGM, the French shipping giant, to establish a state-of-the-art logistics terminal at Sohar Port for $400 million. This initiative aims to elevate the port's status as a pivotal trade center on both regional and international fronts.

The landmark agreement was formalized during Sultan Haitham bin Tarik's official visit to Paris, part of broader strategic negotiations between Oman and France aimed at enhancing economic collaboration.

Revamping Cargo Handling with a New Terminal

The envisaged terminal will be positioned at Sohar, a key industrial hub in Oman. This modern facility is designed to boost cargo throughput, optimize supply chain processes, and enhance linkages to essential shipping routes in the region and beyond.

Officials highlighted that this investment will solidify Sohar’s role as a vital trade conduit connecting Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.

Aligning with Oman's Vision 2040

This agreement aligns with Oman's Vision 2040 initiative, which aspires to diversify the national economy and expand its logistics capabilities. The project is expected to play a crucial role in advancing these strategic economic ambitions by enhancing logistics infrastructure and fostering trade growth.

Enhancing Global Logistics Ties

This collaboration underscores CMA CGM's commitment to growing its footprint in the Gulf while empowering Asyad’s mission to position Oman as a world-class logistics hub. The venture is geared towards attracting foreign investment, constructing top-tier logistics capacities, and generating fresh trade and industrial prospects.
