A tragic incident occurred at Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, where an Indian citizen was killed and over 63 others sustained injuries due to a coordinated missile and drone strike. This information was confirmed by both the Kuwaiti authorities and the Indian Embassy.
The Indian Embassy expressed its condolences for the loss, reiterating its commitment to supporting the victim's family by liaising with local authorities for assistance. In a recent statement shared on social media platform X, the embassy emphasized their role in helping both the bereaved family and the injured.
According to officials from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, a total of 63 individuals were taken to hospitals with injuries, some of which were serious, including head trauma, cerebral hemorrhages, and severed limbs. Emergency responders deployed 25 ambulances to the scene to aid victims.
The assault specifically targeted Terminal One of the airport, resulting in casualties alongside damaged airport facilities. Air traffic was temporarily halted in response to the strikes, as confirmed by Abdullah Al-Rajhi, spokesperson for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards asserted responsibility for the assault, claiming it was retaliation for recent US actions against an Iranian oil tanker and island. They announced via their official Telegram that missiles and drones were aimed at positions in both Kuwait and Bahrain, including the Ali Al Salem Air Base and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet.
The attack has been met with widespread condemnation throughout the Gulf region. Anwar Gargash, a top advisor to the UAE presidency, has called for a cohesive response from Gulf nations, emphasizing that the aggression threatens the entire region, not just individual countries.
Kuwait's Foreign Ministry condemned the strike, labeling it an attack on crucial civilian infrastructure that has resulted in loss of life and numerous injuries.
India's Ministry of External Affairs also condemned the attack, expressing deep sympathies for the family of the deceased.
Authorities continue to evaluate the damages and oversee the security landscape following this assault.
