14 Children Killed in Pakistan Tuition Center Collapse

14 Children Killed in Pakistan Tuition Center Collapse

Post by : Shakul

Families and residents gathered in Lahore on Wednesday to attend the funerals of 14 schoolchildren who lost their lives after the roof of a tutoring center collapsed. The tragic incident also left eight other children injured, who remain hospitalized in stable condition.

Police Probe Construction Negligence

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine whether negligence during ongoing construction work caused the deadly collapse. According to preliminary findings, the tutoring center was operating inside an aging building where construction work was still underway. Investigators suspect the unfinished second-floor roof gave way because of poor construction practices.

Building Owner Among Those Arrested

Police have arrested two people, including the building owner, as part of the investigation. Officials said evidence collected so far indicates that negligence by the owner and construction workers may have contributed to the tragedy. Authorities said further investigations are continuing to establish full responsibility.

Families Mourn Young Lives Lost

Funeral prayers began before dawn as grieving families buried the victims, most of whom were 14 years old or younger. Emotional scenes unfolded as relatives, classmates and neighbors paid their final respects. Some families chose to take the bodies to their hometowns for burial.

Residents Describe Rescue Efforts

Local residents said neighbors were the first to respond after the roof collapsed, using shovels and even their bare hands to remove debris before rescue teams arrived. Although several children were pulled from the rubble alive, many others could not be saved despite the rescue efforts.

Safety Standards Under Scrutiny

The incident has renewed concerns over building safety and construction standards in Pakistan, where structural collapses have occurred repeatedly due to poor-quality construction materials and weak enforcement of safety regulations. Residents have demanded strict action against those found responsible for the children's deaths.
