Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered a thorough investigation into a deadly school shooting that took place at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City. The incident resulted in the deaths of three people and left five others injured.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred on Monday morning inside the school premises located in Barangay San Jose. The tragic incident shocked students, teachers, parents and the wider community, prompting immediate action from government officials.
President Marcos Calls For Strong Security Measures
In a statement released by the Presidential Office, Marcos expressed sadness over the incident and instructed law enforcement agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation. He also directed authorities to strengthen safety measures in schools and public institutions across the country.
The President emphasized the importance of protecting students and ensuring that educational institutions remain safe environments for learning.
Two Suspects Taken Into Custody
Police confirmed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting. One of the suspects is reportedly a Grade 9 student and a minor, while the second suspect later surrendered to authorities.
Investigators said the suspects allegedly used a .38-caliber firearm and a 9mm pistol during the attack. Authorities are currently working to determine the motive behind the shooting.

Victims Receive Medical Treatment
The injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals and medical facilities for treatment. Additional police personnel have been deployed around the school to maintain security and reassure students, staff and parents.
Officials urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information while investigators continue gathering evidence and witness statements.
Education Department Issues High Alert
The Philippine Department of Education described the incident as a "high alert situation" and condemned the violence. The department extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and pledged support for affected students and school personnel.
Counseling and psychological support services are also expected to be provided to help the community cope with the tragedy.
Rare Incident Raises Concerns
School shootings remain uncommon in the Philippines, making the Tacloban incident particularly alarming. The tragedy has reignited discussions about school security, youth violence and access to firearms.
Authorities have assured the public that all circumstances surrounding the attack will be thoroughly examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
