Qatar Emphasizes Middle Powers' Influence at London Forum

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participated in a roundtable on middle powers and the evolution of the global order at the annual London Conference held by Chatham House.

The dialogue explored shifts in the international system and how middle powers are gaining traction in bolstering both regional and global stability.

Enhancing Stability Through Middle Powers

During the session, Dr. Al Ansari articulated the significant transformations currently impacting the global landscape. He emphasized that middle powers are crucial in fostering stability at regional and international levels, particularly as competition among major nations introduces new challenges.

He underscored the importance of countries with increasing regional influence to engage in constructive cooperation.

Importance of Diplomacy and Coordination

Dr. Al Ansari shared experiences from recent regional events, highlighting that effective crisis management is heavily reliant on diplomacy and strong regional coordination.

He further noted that partnerships and collaborative efforts can significantly enhance security and promote enduring regional stability.

A Comprehensive View on Strategic Autonomy

In discussing contemporary global shifts, Dr. Al Ansari pointed out that the evolving international landscape necessitates a wider interpretation of strategic autonomy.

He argued that nations should bolster their capabilities to navigate challenges related to security, defense, energy, and supply chain management. His assessment indicates that enhancing these abilities could pave the way for a more effective and cooperative international environment.
